Technical Writer

Job description

We are an international, fast-growing tech scale-up. You are a tech-savvy, analytical technical writer.

Would you like to use your writing skills to support 2,000 brands and customers of our e-commerce SaaS platform?

As our e-commerce platform grows, our documentation needs also grow. Hence we need you: a Senior Technical Writer capable of comprehensively learning about our systems and documenting features, applying improvements, identifying dependencies and known issues, and everything in between. If you are experienced in technical writing and documentation at a senior level and want to make a difference for 2,000 brands and customers, join us in bringing our documentation to the next level.

Documentation plays a key role in how our customers, partners, and colleagues take advantage of the platform’s many components, and at ChannelEngine we treat it as an essential part of our product. You’ll create high-quality and understandable internal and external documentation. The goal is to make our products easier to use and to improve the success of our customers.

Your challenges

  • Work with our Support and Development teams to attain an in-depth understanding of our e-commerce SaaS platform, and the documentation requirements that come with it.

  • Translate complex technical information into easily understandable information for customers, partners, and colleagues.

  • Produce high-quality technical documentation appropriate for its intended audience. You’re able to adapt your story to the customers’ level of understanding.

  • Write crystal clear user content like help articles, user guides, learning content, and tutorials.

  • Convert the input provided into clear user manuals and other digital content. Where possible, use existing texts and pictures to create new (media) content.

  • Expand our knowledge base and maintain the information architecture.

  • Create technical content for our product documentation in accordance with industry requirements and applicable standards.

  • Technical input coordination with the stakeholders (project/product managers, reviewers, customers).

So… do we have your attention?

Job requirements

What does ChannelEngine have to offer you?

  • This is a new role in a brand new team, so you’ll have the opportunity and room to implement your bright ideas together with your colleagues.

  • Work at a company leading the world of e-commerce and online marketplaces.

  • Grow along with a fast-growing company with many international ambitions.

  • Benefit from the latest technologies, business models, and tools.

  • Work with a driven team, who are passionate to create the best customer experience.

  • Work at our modern office near Leiden Central station or, of course, from home.

  • And there's more than enough room to enjoy life. We're in the heart of Leiden, just a short walk from Leiden Central and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center. We want our colleagues to be happy and healthy, so there are quality chairs and standing desks to work at, free fruit, coffee and tea all day long, training sessions, Friday drinks, and more.

Who are you?

This really makes you the perfect colleague to support our customers:

  • Strong experience in technical writing of software documentation. You understand the craft of technical writing, and how it differs from other types of writing.

  • Have knowledge and experience in software development that you can apply to one or more of the following areas: RESTful APIs, integrations, deployments, documentation engineering (docs-as-code, localization), in-product assistance, and microcopy/UX writing.

  • Experience with e-commerce, markup languages, and GitHub are preferred, and the application of modular documentation techniques is a requirement.

  • Proactive, accurate, and consistent. Besides that, you must be able to handle several projects with short deadlines simultaneously.

  • Have a proven track record in creating and reviewing technical documentation (e.g.: instruction manuals, white papers, datasheets, etc.).

  • Fluent in English (near-native level).

  • Available for 32-40 hours per week.
